Elizabeth Dole Campaigning on Anti-Atheist Bigotry

Note that it's not even Hagan's voice at the end saying "There is no God." They just want you to think that. Because no atheist should ever be allowed in office, of course.

What the hell God has to do with politics, I'll never understand.

This kind of bigotry has to end. I wrote on lubab no more not long ago, gays are the most oppressed subgroup in America. Later I thought, well except maybe atheists!

Not really going to argue with you on this - part of me thinks the good people of North Carolina are entitled to know everything they need to know about their candidates, and if they don't feel that an atheist can adequately reflect their moral and spiritual values they're entitled to take that into account. However, the rather larger part of me tends to think that those DWEMs back in the 18th century included all that "no religious test" stuff in the constitution for a reason.

However, I do have a genuine question - were you this outraged when Obama supporters were attempting to de-legitimise Sarah Palin by portraying her (falsely, as it turned out) as a loopy creationist who went to a church filled with bigots and wierdos? So why the double standard? Either a religious test is out of bounds for everyone or it isn't, surely?

How are magys oppressed? People can be openly gay, and nobody cares. I understand that the average income of Homosexuals is higher than that of heterosexual.

And how are Atheists oppressed?
Dawkins, Hitchins and Harris m,ade lots of money attacking religion. Nothing happened to them.

And the biggest mass murderers in hostory were atheists. just about every atheistic government did engage in mass murder.
just study history. So maybe atheists shouldn't be trusted with power.

I think there's a difference between what supporters do and what campaigns do. If Obama had run a commercial that said in an ominous voice "Sarah Palin attends a Pentacostal church" that ended with a woman's voice speaking in tongues, I think I would have opposed it just as strongly. Obviously, it wouldn't hit me as personally, though.

It's the quickest route to take for any GOP candidate in trouble of losing his/her seat.

Kay Hagan's atheism is not even the point.

The point is the depths of dishonesty to which Elizabeth Dole will sink in order to get elected.

Elizabeth Dole is clearly lying and fear-mongering.

Why? Because Kay Hagan is not even an atheist. She's a former Sunday School teacher, a life-long Christian, and an Elder in The First Presbyterian Church. She regularly serves overseas as a Christian missionary.

Which candidate should be more frightening to the voters of North Carolina?

1) A woman who has been falsely labeled as an atheist.

or

2) A woman who is plainly lying in order to create an atmosphere of fear.

The last line is obviously supposed to suggest a statement from Ms. Hagan. It's not even her voice!

So over-the-top misleading.

Repulsive.

I think Liddy Dole just shit and fell back in it. Even a right wing Christian can see that she cannot claim to be Christian herself after this ad. I am an Athiest and I am an American Taxpayer with better ethics than these politians. It is insulting to me that this ad leads one to believe that Athiests are no better than devil worshippers.
