Israel is an Anti-Israeli Appeaser

...at least if you go by the American right's logic, which often uses two ridiculous assertions:

1) That positions held by a majority or plurality of Israelis themselves or even by the Israeli government can be "anti-Israel."
2) That talking to terrorist organizations is "appeasement."

It turns out that Israel is talking to Hamas (without preconditions) in what the head of Shin Bet calls "negotiations."

Obama, has of course, been pilloried by the American right and the minority Jewish right who claim to speak for the Jews and Israel for saying he would talk to various nations and/or terrorist organizations without preconditions.

Via Andrew Sullivan.

On a related note, you can watch Chris Matthews call out right-wing blowhard Kevin James for not having a clue what he's talking about regarding "appeasement."

I watched that Chris Matthews clip the other day, and it is highly entertaining. It's about time the media started "taking sides" by calling people out when they're talking bullshit.

Good for Matthews, coming right out and saying that negotiation does not constitute appeasement.

No, talking may not constitute appeasement. If you are negotiating, you are agreeing to give them something in return. What on earth would you negotiate with the Iranian President? Or Hamas?

What do you mean? Can't they do something stupidly against their own interests with the psychology of accepting their enemies' version of reality? Israel has enough variety for that.

We undoubtedly communicate with Hamas and Iran via back channels or allies like Israel and Egypt. The real question is what would the "face to face, no preconditions" talks Obama proposes achieve beyond this?

Israel is the source of all conflict on this planet and its a shame that the secular West is being sucked into it. In a perfect world we would leave the Israelis and the Arabs to mutiliate one another. I say give the Palestinians the land that was stolen from them and the conflict will end. Israel should never have been made in the first. Colonialialism, imperialism and all the other isms that the zionist bullshit is based on are the main cause of our obsession with this tiny hunk of land. As I see it I never killed or displaced a Palestinian from his home but yet I am made responsible because of my governments support of that regime. That is just plain wrong.
