Don't Forget the Reason for the Season!!
I've been staying away from this kind of in-your-face criticism of religion lately, but since I'm too polite to respond to the well-meaning secretaries at work who want me to remember that Jesus is the reason for the season*, I'll let off some steam here.
*Presumably, they believe He was conceived under some mistletoe, born on December 25th under an evergreen tree, surrounded by holly and lights, with gifts from a jolly old man who rode in on flying reindeer, 33 years before He was resurrected among bunnies who lay brightly-colored eggs?

While we're mangling things and making stuff up, why not go hog wild.
How about goldfish left Lincoln logs in your sock drawer? At least the goldfish walking from the floor to your drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.
"Mummy, mummy, I woke up this morning and there was a Lincoln log in me sock drawer!"
"That's the story of Jesus!"

Hmm. I feel a nitpick coming on...
As I'm sure you're aware, "season" is a word with a variety of meanings, and " a period of the year immediately before and after a special holiday or occasion: the Christmas season" is just as valid as "one of the four periods of the year (spring, summer, autumn, and winter), beginning astronomically at an equinox or solstice, but geographically at different dates in different climates" (courtesy of dictionary.com), and in the first sense your secretaries are perfectly correct. Still, the spirit of Scrooge is as much a part of Christmas as mistletoe or mince pies:-)
Season's Greetings,
Random
Season is the reason, you're gonna love sardines!
Merry Christmas, JA!! I just wanted to stop in and wish you all the best and maybe you could drop in once in awhile to my little artsy-craftsy blog?
I see Random too! Hi Random, Merry Christmas!!

I have no interest in telling Jews or atheists or whomever what the "reason for the season" is. It's Christians: they're the ones I would like to shake up.
How did we ever get so unspiritual as to buy into this crass commercialization of Christmas? Because Christians have no one to blame for this but themselves, in my opinion.
Maybe I should celebrate Chanukah instead. It has less capitalist baggage.
I always get a little "Bah Humbug" around this time of year. But I shouldn't be cynical: it has been a good Christmas for me and my family.
Merry Christmas...Peace to isreal. I am a christian myself. It's really sad to see a jewish person turn away from the God of david to believe the futile wisdom of man (which is based on his or her closed minded narrow view of the world) Jesus or Yeshua is the Jewish messiah and the Lord of Isreal. I pray you one day meet and accept Jesus (Yahweh's son) as your friend, God and father one day.
..Oh yea and your saviour :D
Hey JA, I just saw your comment on Blowhards (whom I never read but came to via-Sailor) and the ensuing commotion (which, again, I didn't read).
The issue of immigration pisses me off in a way that almost no other issue does (which, personally, I find to be an interesting factoid) and the reason is on account of the issues of lies and class-warfare.
You see, to me the most egregious sin of the well-to-do in this country who allow and encourage the continuation of massive immigration (legal or otherwise) is the fact that they lie about it to the masses. They quote economical bullshit (as you have) to the effect that immigration improves the economy when in fact, immigration improves (massively) the bottom-line of the well-to-do among us (possibly including yourself) who can hire these people to pick their corn or clean their homes but they take the jobs and depress the wages and raise the rental-prices for the rest of us who must now compete not only with each other but with the masses of immigrants as well.
I could speak substantively on the subject for a few pages longer (quoting facts regarding the different and divergent economies of the rich and the poor Americans) and I could rage on the subject for another page as well (spewing venomous hatred for the multi-syllabic liars who improve their lives at the clear expense of their compatriots) - but I really don't see the rationality of doing so on a cost-benefit-analysis level and I feel no compunction to say any more than I've already said so I'll have to leave it as it is for now. At the same time, if you have a job to offer another intelligent Jewish Agnostic, he'll be glad to spend a few hours enlightening you on the immigration matter.
Cheers,

Most of the closed minded people that I have met have been deeply religious; they refuse to live in the real world, they ignore facts because they get in the way of their fantasies.
If you are truly a Christian, Benley, then you must have read your Bible and remember the part where Jesus sends all the Jews and Atheists into eternal damnation. So you must understand that a Jewish Atheist has almost no chance of meeting Jesus as a, “friend”.
